I’ve always had high levels of anxiety that interfere with my life; I put this down to a general panic disorder of unspecified form. But, dating someone with OCD, I did some research into the condition and it seems a more probable cause ; I thought for a while I was going schizophrenic with all the internal dialogue. I know the ‘cure’ is to not care about my religion & sexuality but i don’t want to not care about my health (what if something IS wrong?) or morality (what if i DO hurt someone?).

CharlesLindenJuly 29th, 2009 at 6:04 am

Your preset levels of morality and spirituality should suffice! We are trying to remove INAPPROPRIATE anxiety NOT your appropriate emotions and reactions. Removing your inappropriate anxiety will simply return you to your ‘birth preset’. Charles

but why do we get sexual offensive and horrible type of thoughts?

Thank Charles for this video I really thought I was going crazy an I thought I was the only one having these problems. Now I just need to learn how to control my anxiety.

Pure O sufferers PLEASE READ! I don’t agree with the emphasis on the distinction between Pure O and OCD. You say that Pure O is not a type of OCD because there are no physical displays of compulsive behaviour. But compulsions can be performed cognitively! Constant rumination is a cognitive compulsion aimed at neutralising inappropriate / irrational obsessions. E.g., going through every minute detail of a past experience is a cognitive ‘checking’ behaviour to reduce anxiety about the experience.

CharlesLindenAugust 21st, 2009 at 4:48 pm

Whilst I agree with your explanation from a psychological perspective 100%, my video was created to fall in line with the common definitions of OCD and Pure O which say that the difference is distinguished by the absence in PHYSICAL compulsions.

CharlesLindenAugust 21st, 2009 at 4:49 pm

I MUST make these videos based on COMMON BELIEFS, otherwise they become far too confusing for the average person – I am sure you understand that.

CharlesLindenAugust 21st, 2009 at 4:49 pm

I disagree that the subconscious rumination is ‘aimed at’ anything though, I just think it is simply another extension of ‘what if’ safety seeking’ behaviours typical of all anxiety sufferers; it serves no purpose UNLESS a REAL threat is present and it addresses those directly in the flight or fight response.

CharlesLindenAugust 21st, 2009 at 4:50 pm

Safety seeking behaviours are powerful and intrusive but 100% curable; we’ve proved that many thousands of times. Take care. Charles

Dear Charles,

To put it succinctly, I suffer from obtrusive thoughts which concern absurd notions (for example, I worry that I might be living in some sort of unreal world that I can never escape), which generates an unbelievable level of anxiety. I also worry about stabbing myself or leaping to my death from the top of a tall edifice (I can no longer stand by a ledge). And, addtionally, I feel cut off from myself, like I am some sort of personality-less entity.

XxxNuMbxxX0301September 1st, 2009 at 12:45 am

So much of what I suffer some is undoubtedly induced by anxiety disorder, but so much of what I sense feels as if it is something much more menacing.

Any advice or insights? (I intend to purchase your program, by the way.)

It’s caused by a low serotonin levels or chemical imbalance. All mental illnesses can be caused by brain damage, trauma, or chemical imbalances.

Hey Charles,

I am currently seeking treatment as a pure o under Dr. Steven Phillipson’s team. I’ve been doing treatment for a little over a month and it has been going well I feel. I was just curious what exactly are your treatment methods. I must admit I am a little skeptical to hear that you overcame your intrusive thoughts within a couple of days, mainly because I know for my personal situation it will take much longer from now. Thanks.

bellofsunshine27November 18th, 2009 at 5:04 am

Harm OCD can be “Pure O”. I do mental compulsions. I spell words in my head. I have OCD. It is not just anxiety.

bellofsunshine27November 18th, 2009 at 5:08 am

Check out the book “Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Demystified” by Cheryl Carmin. I have OCD centered around harm. And I do mental compulsions. They are just as real as physical compulsions.

Ugh the worst time of my life is when I started having bad intrusive thoughts about God and other people, also dealing with anxiety attacks, numbness in the body, constipation, being irritable and depressed, I just wanted to sleep alot and not talk to anyone and I still have that, I just refuse to take meds cause of all the bad side effects, I’ve been on them for a while but then they stopped working and make the problem worse. Its just not a fun situation to be in.

insaneelaine85December 9th, 2009 at 11:37 am

I find this frustrating. I believe you think that it’s not OCD because of your experience. it may be misdiagnosed for some people.. I’m not sure. I have pure O, I do not suffer from inappropriate thoughts but from an Obsession to go through memories, find problems and a Compulsion to go through every minuscule detail to “solve” and completely understand these thoughts. These compulsions can cause anxiety. Not the other way around. ugh, I had to read through this 5 times before posting.

CharlesLindenDecember 9th, 2009 at 12:51 pm

@lynagy20 why do you believe it will take so long? Because some doctor told you so? I cured a young Asian girl of OCD after 4 years in 2 hours… how, we just switched off the anxiety. Skeptical as you may be, I can only tell my truth. OCD and Pure O aren’t anxiety disorders, they are symptoms of high anxiety. Charles

CharlesLindenDecember 9th, 2009 at 12:54 pm

@insaneelaine85 you say that anxiety doesn’t cause your OCD but your thoughts can cause anxiety. Trust me… psycho-physiology dictates that in order for the ‘what if’ thoughts which cause the OCD/Pure O to be created, the anxiety response MUST be activated. These what if thoughts area activated in order for the senses to accurately assess REAL threat in your environment but, in the absence of REAL threat, it focuses on your personal obsessions, whatever they may be. Continued…

CharlesLindenDecember 9th, 2009 at 12:56 pm

Continued from below: This may then give rise to anxiety symptoms, which may not have been there previously, however, anxiety MUST have been present before, despite it not creating the more visible/perceivable common symptoms. Charles

CharlesLindenDecember 9th, 2009 at 12:57 pm

@TheRey4you alcohol is a stimulant but, after recovery, we have found that most anxious people don’t want to drink too much. The occasional drink is fine!

CharlesLindenDecember 9th, 2009 at 1:00 pm

@fazelinae anxiety disorders aren’t caused by low Seratonin levels, depression is. Depression and anxiety disorders are as different as body odor and dandruff! Depression is a clinical condition caused by changes in bodily chemicals, I agree, however, anxiety disorder is a behavioral condition caused by environment (and a proposed, genetic predisposition – which I question). Anxiety disorders CANNOT be cured through medication… SSRI use is not curative. Charles

Hi Charles,
I have suffered from unwanted intrusive thoughts in the past e.g. hurting others, but I realised I would never follow through with these actions and they don’t really bother me too much anymore;
however I am really suffering from obsessive thoughts which cause me huge anxiety, I then worry about this anxiety and this cycle continues; the only way to stay calm is to forcefully block the thoughts out which is exhausting. HELP!

rlw92December 20th, 2009 at 4:52 pm

I faced this on my own last christmas and I beat it on my own. All the advice i can give is to go out and do something that makes you feel good and just live with the thoughts, me i went out and ran, i wrote stories blah blah. Make the thoughts seem not a big of a deal each time.
Whoever is going through this mail me! Even i could have had someone to talk to about this and I will help!!!

I thought OCD is when people just go crazy over little stuff like odd numbers, for example.
I didn’t know what I have. I never went to the doctor. I was going insane over the fact that I was thinking that I was insane. Thankfully I have done my research and I have met people that feel the same way that I do. They said that they have Pure-o. I honestly DO NOT care whether it is OCD or not. I care about the fact that I DO have it and I would like to get rid of it.

Hi Charles,

I ordered your set, and will be starting it again. I have a strange obsession. I cognitively know that I am not living in a parallel universe, or a dream world…but I am terrified over the thought I am. Strange and paradoxical. So I can be going about my day, and suddenly I will have the thought “this isn’t real”, and it causes me grief. As a result, I wake up in the morning and feel the most primal fear that I am not living in the real world, despite cognitively knowing that I am. Any thoughts?
