Overcome Depression Naturally: Biological Cause

www.encognitive.com 5-HTP is a naturally derived amino acid that has been shown in comprehensive studies to be safer than prescription drugs for the treatment of insomnia and depression, and can also be used for treating obesity, migraine headaches, fibromyalgia, and premenstrual syndrome. It may prove to be more popular than St. John’s wort for the treatment of depression and other serotonin-related conditions, as it’s been shown to produce results in as little as two weeks, while the herb may take a month or longer. Author Michael Murray, ND, a leading naturopath and coauthor of The Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, delves very deeply to explain the hows and whys of depression at the neurotransmitter level, and the illustrations of presynaptic membranes may be a bit much for the lay reader. There are also several sections with intimidating titles along the lines of “Enhancing 5-HTP with Catecholamine Precursors.” But the book’s comprehensiveness makes up for its occasional denseness. Murray includes enlightening sections on nutrition for peak serotonin synthesis, other complementary herbal supplements, and many online and physical sources for obtaining 5-HTP. –Erica Jorgensen –This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. From Library Journal Murray (Encyclopedia of Nutritional Supplements, Prima, 1996) believes that the symptoms of depression, obesity, headaches, insomnia, anxiety, hyperactivity, premenstrual syndrome, chronic fatigue

    3. And on a personal level, I know this is bunk. I am bi polar and I tried the “all natural” herbal route. I might as well been taking air pills, it did nothing. I was active, I had a regular sleep schedule, etc. and I was still bi polar. I’m not saying anti-depressants always work either (they didn’t for me, but I build a tolerance very quickly), but they do work for some people and I think its naive to just discount such effectiveness as “big pharma”

    4. I would like to see your “most school shooters/mass murderers were on anti-depressants” claim. Its easy to claim, but I don’t trust unsourced claims.

MagnesDrachen13 is a Big Pharma troll.

Do your own research. I’ve done mine.

  5. MagnesDrachen13 says:

I’ve LIVED my research. I’ve felt he effects personally, I know the results. Calling me a troll shows ignorance on your part. I have dealt with this my whole life, I have seen it from all sides.

the cause of depression can be attack of spirits…that has to be removed in the name of Jesus Christ. If a spirit or demon is present in a person or around him, it oppress the person completely

Jesus was a Prophet, not the son of God. The message was distorted with time.

i know some one close to me who took antidepressants pills and told me he was thinking about killing him self. i seen many people with relatives with the same cases. These drugs don’t work, don’t listen to big pharmas right diet and exercise is the only thing that works.

Please anyone who is depressed fill your head with some kind of physical agenda. A regular walk a marathon anything along those lines. Will make a difference I promise.

  10. AnAtheist says:

Okay, i agree that food and exercise are paramount in regulating one’s serotonin levels, and that ADs don’t always work, but i have a huge problem with people who do nothing but attack the PHARMA companies. You know what, ADs DO help many people and they are strongly regulated. Why is it that people say nothing about them making a fortune from people buying ‘natural’ or ‘alternative’ medicines? Why is okay for them to earn and not be corrupt? These pills have very little regulation…..

  11. AnAtheist says:

(contnued) compared to the likes of SSRIs produced by pharmaceutical companies. I really wish people would stop with this negative attitude towards the pharmaceutical industry, i think people always just want to create controversy for the sake of it. It isn’t only drugs within the field of psychiatry that aren’t always effective, any drug for any illness may not work for everyone, it is the individual who is either immune, or for some reason does not benefit from the drug in question.

  12. zzzonezz says:

i don’t mean to insult your intelligence but big pharma is run by boards of directors not moms or doctors. they don’t care about you. they care about your money

  13. zzzonezz says:

    looks like your prophet too.

  14. AnAtheist says:

Well, you’re hardly insulting my intelligence just by having a differing view, i simply happen to disagree. Pharma companies may not care about me, as an individual, but they do care about selliing their drugs, and in order to sell them, they need to pass tough regulations, which are enforced independently to the large companies. Those making the so called ‘Natural’ drugs are every bit as bad, and calling the drugs ‘natural’ doesn’t mean they are any more ‘moral’ – just that they know how…

  15. AnAtheist says:

(continued)…manipulate people, claiming that they have the moral highground, when in fact they don’t -they could be selling anything as far as you’re concerned, their unltimate goal is the same, MONEY – only they have little to no regulation and if they did, i bet 99% of the products would not be licensed since the stuff on the drugs is nothing more than water – homeopathy being a classic example.

@zzzonezz AGREED!!! After 4 months of horror, I got off my antidepressant. It made me a zombie for 10 years. After getting of it, I learned I also have fibromyalgia. I started 5 HTP and it’s been 2 weeks. I pray it works. So far, I only notice very minor improvement.

Does anyone know the pros and cons of taking Tryptophan vs 5-HTP? I’ve heard warnings about 5-HTP generating high seratonin levels in the blood, where they are not supposed to be as seratonin doesn’t cross the blood brain barrier anyway. Something tells me that Tryptophan would be safer. But there are lots of testimonials for 5-HTP working very well.

you completely left out another depression cause—bad life experiences. i think ive always had low serotonin or something but i never was depressed until age 14 when my social life continued to be terrible & self image declining

no useless supplement ever made a difference

  23. mizzzlizzz02 says:

You know, I was on Wellbutrin in high school for a little while and it was wierd. I sort of felt numb. I really didnt care about anything…and I also wasnt depressed anymore. I got off of it because of this numb feeling. My depression has since come back in full force and I dont really want to go on anti-depressants. I will have to try this as an alternative. Thanks for posting!

  24. mizzzlizzz02 says:

@mizzzlizzz02 Actually, I heard now that this was banned in the US? Is that true?

  25. prokopton says:

@mizzzlizzz02 There’s a very good story behind why -tryptophan was banned in the U.S. In brief, it was one bad batch of caused by GMO in the l-tryptophan. Third video of link below has info: encognitiveDOTcom/node/10275 (third video)
